About me
I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I qualified as a medical doctor in 2002. I also trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (2000-2004).
I further trained in psychiatry and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2011. My Higher Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Mental Health was completed at St Mary’s Scheme, London, which is affiliated to Imperial College, London.
From 2017 to 2024, I worked as a lecturer on the Integrative Child Psychotherapy MA at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education in London, an academic partner of the University of East London. I was responsible for teaching the Child Psychiatry module, where I shared clinical knowledge and practical insights with students training to become child psychotherapists.
I’ve worked within a variety of NHS settings with children and adults, including people with learning and physical disabilities. In my everyday practice I treat young people presenting with a range of psychiatric disorders including depression, PTSD, general anxiety, phobias and OCD.
I have experience in assessment and treatment of psychological trauma and I trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
I have particular expertise in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder or Tic Disorders e.g.Tourette Syndrome.
Most recently, I was a member of the autism assessment team at the Tavistock Clinic (NHS), where I was involved in conducting comprehensive assessments for children and adolescents suspected of having autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
My training combines medical knowledge with experience in child development, family work, and individual therapies. I also use an attachment as well as psychoanalytic theory perspective to understand problems in the child-caregiver relationship. My work often combines psychiatric diagnosis and treatment - medications, if indicated with talking therapy.
I am skilled in helping children and young people who are experiencing school-based problems.
I have experience in the assessment and management of young people whose behaviour has brought or is at risk of bringing them to school exclusion.
I can offer to see parents/carers on their own to help understand where the difficulties the family is experiencing might be coming from.
As a clinician, I aim to work collaboratively with young people and their families, and when appropriate, with the school, to develop a shared understanding and find a way forward together.
